Barbara Howell


I migrated west from upstate New York after receiving my master's degree from Syracuse Unviersity. I moved to Madison, Wisconsin and worked for the University of Wisconson at the Waisman Center. My career with Shasta County began in 1982 when I was offered a job with Children and Family Services. I have worked for Shasta County for more then twenty years as a social worker, supervisor, trainer, and manager. In my current role as Deputy Director with Shasta County Social Services, I continue to work closely with Children and Family Services where the primary focus is on enhancing the safety, permanency, and well being of children and families. I have also worked for the University of California at Davis Northern California Training Academy focusing on child welfare, and I continue to serve on the academy's advisory board.

I have been a Commisioner for First 5 Shasta since January 2007.
