Redding School District

Serving as First 5 Shasta's primary partner in the school readiness program, the Redding School District employs Family Advocates, provides information to family child care providers regarding kindergarten standards, and will provide a variety of trainings for early childhood educators including:

  • "A Framework for Understanding Poverty" - training for kindergarten and first grade teachers.
  • "California Statewide Reading Results Project" - training series for preschool, kindergarten and first grade teachers.

The REMEDY Project
A school readiness partner providing services to families living within the Redding School District.  These services are designed to empower both youth and their families.

  • Counseling Services - Free counseling services for families with children under five years of age that live in the Cypress or Juniper attendance areas.
  • Transportation - Free transportation for families participating in REMEDY counseling services.
  • Family Literacy Program - "PARENTS" classes offered at Cypress and Juniper that enhance literacy skills while sharing parenting techniques.  Families receive books for their child and a free computer upon completion of the 13-week course.

Shasta County Office of Education - Early Childhood Services 
A school readiness partner providing early learning opportunities to families with children ages 3-to-5 years old.

  • Juniper State Preschool - additional half-day session for children living in the Juniper attendance area (must meet eligibility requirements).  Provides active learning environment that benefits children's intellectual, physical, emotional and social development.
  • Bridges to Success - offers support to families and care providers regarding social/emotional development issues and behavior management of children ages 3-to-5.

Shasta Head Start - Early Head Start 
A school readiness partner providing a variety of services including:

  • New Early Head Start Center on Juniper Academy campus - serving children from 18 months through 3-years old.  Enriching opportunities for children to explore and learn in a nurturing child care environment.
  • Parenting groups and classes on Cypress and Juniper campuses.  Classes include Exploring Parenting Curriculum and  Nurturing Curriculum.  Groups include Couples Support Group, focusing on marriage issues such as communication, parenting styles and finances.
  • Provider trainings - "Second Step Violence Prevention Curriculum".  For preschool and kindergarten teachers and family child care providers.

City of Redding 
A school readiness partner providing fun, on-campus activities for children under five years of age and parents.  

Classes encourage parents and children to spend quality time together enjoying music, dance, story times and play.
