Early Care Initiative
Our Investment in Quality Care
Raising the standard of child care in Shasta County is a primary interest of
the Shasta Commission. Our Early Care Initiative was established to ensure
child care experiences in our community achieve standards of quality that benefit
children, families and the professionals providing care.
Funding to support this 3-year initiative has been
provided as follows:

Initiative Components
1. Higher education and professional development for child care professionals.
2. Accreditation of early care centers and family child care homes.
3. Support for license exempt providers.
Shasta County Office of Education
First 5 Shasta contracts with the Shasta County Office of Education, Early
Childhood Services (ECS) to direct the work associated with the initiative.
Contract amount: $1,143,022
ECS match: $170,500
