First 5 Shasta
School Readiness Program
Connections for Early Learning - Connections For Life!
Making Connections
The experiences of young children, from age 0-to-5, build their
foundation for learning. The quality of early experiences influences
a child's ability to learn, succeed in school and reach their greatest
potential in life. The highest success in learning occurs when schools,
families, and communities partner to benefit children.
The First 5 Shasta School Readiness Program is an investment in early
learning connections. This four-year program is funded by a $400,000
grant received in January 2003 from the California Children and Families
Commission. To enhance these funds, First 5 Shasta contributed
$200,000 and local partners committed to approximately $1 million in
services.
The three fundamental cornerstones of the school readiness program
are
1. Children's readiness for school
2. School's readiness for children
3. Family and community supports and services that contribute to children's
readiness for school success
