Dorothy Tello

Appointed: May 2004
Dorothy is a mother and former teacher specializing in bilingual primary education. Her teaching experiences included four years of Spanish bilingual kindergarten, two years of bilingual first grade in inner city Oakland, as well as teaching third grade in Anderson's Cascade District. While teaching in Oakland, she was instrumental in the bilingual team's development of English language goals between grades K-5 and helped establish bimonthly Language Arts "Parent Nights" where families were instructed in ways to support their child's learning.
Dorothy's combination of experience includes an understanding of poverty as an issue inclusive of being "without access to all kinds of resources that help us grow into happy, healthy, contributed members of society, not just being without money." Dorothy approaches her participation on the committee as an opportunity to support First 5 Shasta in addressing challenges and achieving its goals.
